Disney+
Deepening Disney+'s brand relevance through audit and strategic recommendations.
Context
This brand strategy case study examines Disney+'s positioning and growth challenges through a team-based strategic analysis grounded in primary and secondary research. Despite strong brand equity and exclusive access to Disney's intellectual property, Disney+ faces increasing pressure from market saturation, franchise fatigue, and the need to engage audiences beyond its core demographics. The work focused on identifying strategic paths for Disney+ to strengthen differentiation, expand relevance, and drive long-term subscriber value in a competitive streaming landscape.
Goals
The primary goal was to identify Disney+'s most critical challenges in a saturated streaming market through a comprehensive brand audit and translate those findings into actionable strategic priorities. Secondary goals included evaluating opportunities to expand engagement beyond the core audience while preserving brand trust, and defining strategies that could strengthen differentiation and long-term subscriber value.
How I Worked
I led analysis across the full brand audit, synthesizing secondary research, competitive reviews, and primary consumer interviews to assess Disney+ across positioning, portfolio architecture, and consumer-based brand equity. I translated audit findings into a set of core brand challenges, then worked with the team to develop and validate strategic recommendations supported by survey research. I contributed to shaping final strategies, associated tactics, and measurement considerations, and helped distill the work into executive-ready reports and presentations.
Key Decisions & Tradeoffs
A central decision was to frame Disney+'s challenges around brand and platform strategy rather than content volume alone, recognizing that strong franchises and family appeal were no longer sufficient to drive sustained growth on their own. The team prioritized strategies that extended relevance beyond family-oriented viewers and franchise enthusiasts while preserving brand trust. Another key tradeoff was emphasizing ecosystem integration and experience simplification over aggressive pricing tactics, favoring clarity and engagement over short-term subscriber acquisition.
Impact
The work produced a clear, research-backed view of Disney+'s most pressing brand challenges and a set of strategic recommendations grounded in consumer insight and competitive analysis. Primary and survey research validated demand for strategies that expanded relevance beyond core audiences while preserving brand trust, and the final recommendations provided a cohesive path to strengthen differentiation and long-term subscriber value in a crowded streaming market.
